“The World is Just Awesome”, the catch phrase to Discovery Channel’s Ad campaign is perfect. It has summed up my pursuit of adventure and travel experiences in just 5 simple words.
I have come to realize that there are two types of people in this world… People that watch the Discovery channel and people who do not. Nothing is wrong with either group, although I find that people that are interested in the world outside of Reality TV are much more interesting to talk to.
For those of you that put yourself in the Discovery Channel camp, I suggest you go out and purchase the BBC series “Planet Earth” (if you have not already). I don’t know what took me so long to see this series, but it was fantastic. While watching, I said to myself on many occasions “I’ve been there!” It focuses on the most untouched and beautiful places on Earth. To have seen and experienced these wondrous things that were picked for this documentary felt like a great accomplishment.
Tomorrow I embark on my most ambitious adventure to date. I will get to photograph a part of the world that not many people get to experience. I can’t wait to see what is in store for me and to share it with all of you through the 35 pounds of glass and electronics that I will be hauling through the African heat.
I have seen many remarkable places… The Waitomo Caves of New Zealand, the Amazon River Basin in Peru and the Limestone Peaks of Halong Bay in Vietnam. 25 countries on five continents so far and only a small fraction of what our planet’s natural beauty has to offer.
The world is truly awesome.
