I normally consider myself to be a morning person, until this leg of the expedition. We are up every morning before dawn to get the best sightings of wildlife. I have spent the last three days on game drives through Etosha National Park and it has been worth every 4:30 am rise.  After a quick breakfast, we are off in the safari vehicle and the sun has barely broken the horizon. Giraffe and Zebra are here in big numbers. It is actually difficult to take a bad photograph! We also had two sightings of male Lions and a trio of Rhinos crossed right in front of the vehicle. Vultures feasted on a recent kill among the many skeletons of the featured menu items lying beside the dirt road. Seeing all of this exotic wildlife was remarkable but surprisingly it was not the best part. What is even more surprising is that the highlight of Etosha was not even visual. I was woken up in the middle of the night to the sounds of Lions roaring and Hyenas cackling. They sounded like they were right outside my tent! That is something you never forget.  After countless hours of watching wildlife documentaries throughout my life, I am actually living right in the middle of one.
