As I was shuttled from place to place over the last week, I passed through countless small towns and villages. With the fresh African air in my face, I would often wave at groups of people. With delight and enthusiasm they would wave back and smile! It became addictive and I kept waving at strangers as I passed through their villages at over 80 kilometres an hour. I could not help myself, I felt like I had to keep doing it! The strangers waving back at me seemed as though I had made their day as they exploded with happiness, all it took was a simple wave from a random truck passing by. It is simple things like this that make this expedition worthwhile. I have realized that with all the illness, hunger and poverty here, people are genuinely happy. I can’t help but to think if even a single person back home would have waved to a passing car with such enthusiasm. Never underestimate the power of the wave.
