The Chobe River is the border between Botswana and Zambia. My afternoon yesterday was in a riverboat, a few metres from Elephants, Monkeys, Crocodiles, Buffalo and Hippos. The Hippos were actually swimming alongside the boat! Families of Elephants looked inquisitively at me as the shutter opened and closed hundreds of times. The large bull chased away antelope, protecting his family as hippos grazed in the distance.  I have seen these animals many times in zoos and animal parks, but seeing a family of more than twenty elephants drinking from the river is a sight that is truly priceless.  As our afternoon progressed, the sky became dark and angry. I could see a wall of water in the distance, so I rushed to get all my gear back into my camera bag and secure the rain cover. As the wave of rain approached, thunderclaps became more frequent and the lightshow was extraordinary. The rain had started all at once, as if someone had turned a giant faucet on.  It seems that every day is better than the last on this expedition and it does not feel like a month has passed since I began this year’s adventure.
