Stonetown, Zanzibar was the next stop on the expedition. This island has not had power for over three months, so I didn’t know what to expect. Walking through the streets at night, I realized that it was a blessing in disguise.  Since there were a very minimal number of lights running on generators, the sky was as bright as I have ever seen in a city. As you look up between the buildings, the Milky Way and trillions of stars were clearly visible and created an unnatural backdrop for the buildings in the night.  As I walked through the streets it was also extremely quiet, only the odd car or moped passing by. It was a total contrast from the busy streets just a few hours earlier.  The heat and humidity has subsided only slightly, but the air conditioned internet cafe running on generators was a treat that I enjoyed until the owner kicked me out.
