Last week was spent doing the part of my job that makes people the most envious… Can anyone say Destination Wedding???  This summer I actually have three of them on my schedule so far and this was the first. The location was the Riu Palace in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and it is gorgeous! Vibrantly coloured walls, beautiful majestic skyscapes and soft sandy beaches (notice I did not say “white” sandy beaches – see the post on Whitehaven Beach for the reason!). It was the perfect setting for a wedding.  I had a late night arrival, so I had to wait until the morning to scout the grounds. Around every corner was another perfect spot for a photo opportunity. Classical green gardens, Caribbean Streets with vibrantly coloured pastel storefronts, swaying palm trees, the possibilities were endless. I had a short list of my favourite spots planned for the three days of shooting.  My energy level is always extremely high, but I try to help the couple to stay upbeat and enthusiastic. Wearing a suit or a long dress and posing for pictures in 35+ degree heat can be tough for the couple. I like to show them a few of the images once in a while to let them know that they are doing a great job and to show them that their extra effort now will pay off when they pick up their final cut of images.  Three days of shooting and almost 8,000 frames later, I was ready to enjoy the last little bit of time in paradise doing what I love to do most. Explore!  I got on a local bus and headed to the capital of The Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo. Carrying almost twenty thousand dollars of cameras and glass is always a little nerve racking, but you can”t get great images without toting the glass around.  I spent the day chatting with locals and asking permission to take a picture. They were much more receptive here than in Africa. People loved the camera! I really enjoy photographing people in uniform, especially military personnel or traditionally dressed locals. At times, it was very hard to get a decent shot in Africa as people would not be willing to let you take their photo. As you will see below, I was able to snap a great shot of a guard near the centre of the city.  Shooting weddings for Boston Avenue is a great gig. Not only do I work with a great group of people, I am doing something that I truly love and I am extremely fortunate. As I have said many times, I love to shoot weddings for many reasons, but this past week was definitely one of the perks of the job.  Next Destination Wedding: Venice, Italy
