As the jet descended into Nadi International Airport in Fiji, the windows steamed up just as if you were breathing on your sunglasses. You could just tell the humidity was going to make everything wet as soon as you exited the air conditioned plane. Through the steamy windows, I caught a bird’s eye view of the islands and atolls that I would be photographing for the next five days. The crystal clear turquoise waters looked incredible.  The small airport reminded me of the many Caribbean airports that I have been to. The people were very warm and friendly and went out of their way to make you feel welcome. There was even a traditional Fijian band playing in the arrivals section as I walked to customs.

In Fijian, “Bula” is their way of saying Hello or Welcome. I arrived with no previous reservations for accommodations, I only had an itinerary that a friend help me put together. A local travel agent at the airport helped arrange all of my accommodations and transport. As she sent me off on my way, she placed a shell necklace over my head and smiled. I can already tell I am going to like this place.  Because I arrived late in the afternoon, there were no more boats going up the very exotic north islands. I would have to stay close to Nadi and catch the ferry first thing in the morning. As I arrived at my hotel, I was presently surprised! It was a beautiful sprawling resort and my room was spacious, clean and air conditioned. I enjoyed a nice dinner beside the beach, got some gorgeous sunset shots and called it a night so I could write to all of you. Unfortunately I was told that there would be absolutely no internet access in the extremely remote islands that I will be visiting.
