Over the years of visiting Elafonissos, it has come to be known as “my happy place”. We used to plan to stay on the island for 3-5 nights, but it proved to be difficult because during high season, it is very difficult to secure a room. The work around we have discovered is making it a day trip from Gytheio! It’s only about 2 hours drive, so we leave very early and have our breakfast and coffee on the road. What a beautiful road it is! The drive to this remote and hidden spot is almost as good as the destination itself. Winding mountain roads, cute villages and Sea views make the drive go by so quickly. The best thing about it is that almost no one even knows about Elafonissios. The first time we visited in 2016, we were literally the only people on the beach until about noon when one other family joined us.
