The first time I landed in Australia two years ago, the Qantas flight circled the harbour and I got a glance of the most majestic city I have ever visited. I did not get to photograph too much of the city the last time, so I vowed to spend a good portion of my time here behind the lens. In my first two days here I walked the city, twice! I started my day with a workout in a popular King’s Cross health club and then the pilgrimage started. From kings cross, I walked down to the Woolloomooloo Naval Yard and through the Royal Botanical Gardens. The botanical Gardens are enormous and house rare tropical plants from all around the world. As I walked through an area with tall trees, I heard a mysterious noise above me. I looked up and saw thousands of bats hanging upside down. This time of year, the gardens are home to a huge number of flying foxes. The heat was almost unbearable. If it wasn’t for the amazing shots I was getting, I would have called it a day at this point, sat in an air conditioned pub and grabbed a pint of Australian Lager. Instead, I laid under a tree in the Botanical Gardens next to the Opera house and attempted to cool off and recharge.

After laying and enjoying the view for a while, I strapped my gear to my back and kept moving. I walked the perimeter of the Opera house, through Circular Key and to “The Rocks”, the area under the bridge closer to the city. As you will see from the images below, there is not a single bad angle to this bridge. It is an architectural work of art. I then worked my way up through Old Sydney and up onto the bridge, which was the climax of the day. The views from up here are out of this world. From the imagery below, you will see why this is one of my favourite cities in the world. I loved this walk so much in fact, that I repeated the exact route the very next day!
