I am extremely lucky to have friends in cities all over the world. A few days ago, I was taken on an extreme tour of Sydney in a highly modified sports car. Only a local would have known the spots I was taken to. The day started at Darling Point and we visited a lot of the eastern suburbs of Sydney. As we made our way around the harbour, I saw some of the most amazing real estate backing onto the water. Massive, multimillion dollar homes built on cliffs, stretching all the way down the rocks so terraces could be built backing onto the water. The only part of the homes visible from street level were the multiple car garages housing luxury automobiles.

We followed the coastline as it curved in and out and looking through the lens put a smile on my face.  As we got further away from the harbour, I knew we were getting close to Bondi. The last time I was here, I discovered this amazing beach. Bondi Beach is a place made famous by its big surf, shark attacks and huge party scene. This is the place for the youth of the world to come together and enjoy the best sun and surf Australia has to offer. Hard core surfers will disagree that this is the best beach, but it is definitely my favourite place to let loose. If you show up here on a hot weekend as we just did, the first thing you will notice is the countless number of people. You will then notice that you need to go to the gym before coming to this beach. In my opinion, Bondi should be renamed “Hardbody Beach”. I spent Christmas day in 2008 at Bondi dancing for hours at the biggest beach party I have ever attended. World renowned DJs were spinning the latest club music while thousands of people danced in the sun with Santa hats. It’s a party I will never forget.  Driving south from Bondi, I passed Tamarama beach, a smaller beach in a cove where you will find a lot more of the hardcore surfers. There are less people swimming and the surf is much more aggressive.  After a full day of driving, taking photos and braving the 41 degree heat, we needed to cool down. In the entertainment quarter, there is a pub called the Bavarian Bier Café which quickly became my favourite spot here in Sydney. The food is traditional German fare, but what kept me coming back was the beer… Sold in One Litre glasses! I am not normally a beer drinker, but this was a very special beer. They used a German wheat beer called Franziskaner Wiessbier as the base and added a splash of Mango Puree to it. This gave it a very tropical and fresh taste and made it very easy to work through a litre. I know a German Bier Haus is not quintessentially Australian, but because I enjoyed it so much, I just needed to mention it.  I only have a few days left of Australia, then the real adventure starts. It is hard to believe that I have been gone for more than three weeks. The time is just flying!
