When I was planning my time in Thailand, I left a few days open to visit an island that I had not been to the previous time I was here. I ended up talking to some people while in Bangkok and I chose Ko Lanta. This would be a great decision.  The Ferry ride to Ko Lanta brought me through Railay Bay to pick up more passengers. The view from the ship was amazing. The water was perfectly flat for the entire time on the ship and I barely felt it move at all.  As the ship pulled into Ko Lanta harbour, I saw the hundreds of shops and instantly thought “tourist trap”. I love to travel but I cant stand tourists. I do anything and everything to get away from the flock and get way off the beaten path. I will sacrifice comforts such as electricity and hot water because I know that not a lot of people will chose this way of travel.  I picked a hotel that was very far away from the pier, closer to the southern part of the island. This morning I got up early, rented a motorcycle and headed even further south away from the heard. The road went from being paved to looking like a motocross track. This is exactly where 99% of the tourists on motorcycle turned around. I kept on going, eventually being completely covered in a talcum powder type dust when I reached the National park at the very southern tip of the island.  Thankfully that road was not paved as I had almost the entire national park to myself. There was only one car and two other motorcycles in the parking lot. It was fantastic! I was able to shoot the beautiful landscape with not a single person in my frame. Once I was done getting all my shots, I wanted to take a dip in the crystal clear water. The 500 metre long beach was all mine, not a person in the water or on the perfect sand. People dream of a setting like this, and I had it all to myself. It was the definition of tranquility.  My standing order on lunch while in Thailand is traditional Pad Thai, but today it was with a twist. I had my lunch in a restaurant built on stilts on the side of a clif overlooking a small bay. The view while I ate my lunch was out of this world.  As I slowly worked my way back to the hotel, I stopped many times to shoot the local fishing boats and other frame worthy objects. Finishing off my day was a dinner at my hotel restaurant with my feet in the sand, listening to the gentle waves lapping up on the shore. Since my extreme illness in India I have been very careful with what I eat until today. I could not hold back any more and had a Panang curry chicken. I have been craving the sweet and spicy coconut milk based dish since I got to Thailand. I have to say, today was another fantastic day in Thailand!
