Phuket is the textbook definition of “tourist trap”. In terms of shopping, the same things that I saw for sale in Bangkok are between 100% to 300% more expensive in the markets here! If you are going to do any shopping in Thailand, do it all in Bangkok and don’t expect to find anything different (or cheaper) anywhere else.  I have now been all over Thailand and I can honestly say Phuket is my least favourite spot, except for food. The Patong Food Market, located at the North end of the main strip had a great selection of fresh fish, satay skewers and various other Thai fare. I could not stop stuffing my face every time I visited this area. I was only here for two nights and I was all the way on the other end of the city, but both nights I walked in the tropical heat to this amazing place for two of the best meals of my time away so far.  Both nights I opened up my appetite with some fresh satay skewers and then I headed over to the fresh fish stalls. Being an outdoor market that opens at about 5:00pm, I could not wait to get there to start my gluttonous feast.  From my time in Phuket two years ago, I knew “Linda”s Seafood” to be a great spot for some of the best food in the market. This time she picked out a Red Snapper for me that was so fresh, it was still gasping for air as they descaled it. It was deep fried in front of me and then prepared with a chilli paste stir fry that was pored over the crispy skin. The calamari that I ordered to accompany my massive one kilogram fish came to my table shortly after. My tastebuds were going into orbit!  As I finished my meal and got up to start my long walk back, police cars flew by the stalls followed by twenty or so exotic cars! The Gumball Rally finds me again, halfway around the world. Ferrari”s, Lamborghini’s and other super exotics blew by the stalls as spectators ran out to have a look. The last time I saw this race I was sitting in Yorkville, having dinner with some friends.  Tonight was my last night in Thailand and what better way than to celebrate my time here with one last great meal at the Patong Food Market. This evening I started with the same beef, pork and chicken satay skewers and then headed over to Linda’s again. Tonight I had a huge mud crab in a Yellow Curry Sauce and then another large fish. I chose a Parrot Fish as they are very interesting and colourful fish with a very light flavour. It was prepared on the BBQ with a butter and garlic sauce. If you are ever in Phuket, make sure to come and see Linda for one of the best meals of your life.
